MIXED FRUITS PIE π₯§
A pie is a baked dish made of a sweet or savory filling encased in pastry dough casing . It is a delicious dessert which can be served as it is or with dollops of ice cream of your choice .
In a sweet π₯§ pie fruits like apples, plums, π peaches, berries etc are tossed with sugar and cinnamon in the filling . A savoury pie π₯§ on the other hand has fillings of veggies, meat ,herbs and cheese. Both the versions have their own charm .
Here I am presenting the sweet version MIXED FRUITS PIE π₯§
I have used apples , π pears and dates
Here goes the easy short cut recipe . Though the crust is usually made of only refined Flour , I have used both refined and whole wheat flour .
INGREDIENTS FOR THE CRUST
Refined flour.( Maida) 3/4 cup
Whole wheat flour( atta). 3/4cup
Baking powder. Pinch
Sugar. 3_4 TBSP
Chilled butter. 1/2 cup ( cut into small pieces)
Chilled water. As needed to make a smooth dough
METHOD TO MAKE THE DOUGH
Sieve atta , Maida , sugar powder ,and baking powder
Add chilled butter and rub through the flours . It will resemble bread crumbs
Add chilled water and form a dough
Divide the dough into two parts
Put each ball of dough in a foil and keep in fridge .
NOW IT'S TIME TO MAKE THE FILLING π
Apple ( chopped) 1
Pear. ( chopped) 1
Dates ( chopped) 5 _ 6
Oats( can use cornflour instead ) _ 2 tbsp
Butter. 2 tbsp
Cinnamon powder ( grate a stick of cinnamon with the cheese grater )
Dry fruits
Milk for mom wash.
Sugar. 2 _3 tbsp ( you can add less or more sugar depending on the sweetness of the fruits and your own taste buds )
METHOD
Heat some butter
Add all the ingredients of the filling and toss till the moisture just dries up and the mixture thickens . ( Don't over cook the filling)
How TO PROCEED
Preheat the oven to 180°degree celcius
Take out the doughs from the fridge
Roll the doughs to form two big circles
Shift one dough circle to the loose bottom pie dish
Neaten the edges by cutting with a sharp knife
Pierce a few holes with a fork
Pour the filling
Put some butter
Cover the filling with the other dough circle
Make slits on it with a knife to form a checkered pattern .
Brush the top with some milk . ( Milk wash)
BAKING THE PIE
Bake for 30 _ 35 minutes till the crust becomes golden and crisp
Cut into wedges and enjoy with ice cream, custard or as it is
